PRIDE IN STRIDE

Share

On St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish have it easy when it comes to wearing their heritage on their sleeve -- go all out in head-to-toe green or accessorize with a shamrock. But dressing the part for Cinco de Mayo is a tougher task. “It’s not like you can wear the colors green, white and red without looking like a goofy flag,” says Gustavo Arellano, writer of the weekly syndicated column ¡Ask a Mexican! “And stay away from sombreros and serapes or you’ll look like a bad stereotype.”

That said, the Adidas Cinco de Mayo sneaker -- $100, and available online Thursday -- may be the coolest way to stride with Latino pride on May 5. This blindingly bright chimera of a kick also celebrates the 25th anniversary of Adidas’ Forum collection of basketball sneakers, designed with added ankle support, which could come in handy after a few margaritas. www.shopadidas.com.
