at Kansas City 2, Toronto 1: Luke Hochevar picked up his first major league win in only his third career start. Hochevar, the first overall pick in the 2006 draft, held the Blue Jays to six hits and one run in six innings. “You dream of that since you’re a little kid,” said Hochevar, who was given the game ball and lineup card. “To get the first one is pretty surreal.”

Baltimore 5-5, at Chicago 1-6: Brian Anderson hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the White Sox a split of the day-night doubleheader. The Orioles won the opener when Brian Burres, who faced one batter before Friday night’s game was rained out, came back and yielded only three singles in eight shutout innings.

at Tampa Bay 2, Boston 1: Akinori Iwamura’s two-run homer in the eighth inning helped the Rays win their fifth in a row for the first time since Aug. 16-21, 2005. The homer spoiled it for Clay Buchholz, who took a one-hit shutout into the eighth.

at Cleveland 4, New York 3: Victor Martinez’s bases-loaded single to left scored Grady Sizemore from third base with one out in the ninth inning, giving the Indians their season-high fifth win in a row.

at Seattle 5, Oakland 3: Erik Bedard gave up only two hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings in his return from the disabled list.

at Detroit 6, Angels 4: The Angels didn’t get a hit until Vladimir Guerrero’s triple with two out in the sixth inning.
