Pittsburgh 3, at Chicago 0: Jeff Karstens, acquired in last week’s deal that sent Xavier Nady to the New York Yankees, shut down the Cubs on five hits over six innings in his first start of the season.
Colorado 5, at Florida 2: Ubaldo Jimenez yielded two hits in seven shutout innings to win his fourth straight start. He kept the Marlins hitless until Dan Uggla’s leadoff single in the fifth.
at Washington 5, Cincinnati 2: Odalis Perez liked his chances of winning after the Nationals raced out to an early lead. “If I see five runs in the first two innings, I have a 90% chance to win the game,” he said.
at Houston 7, New York 3: Pinch-hitter Mark Loretta hit a tiebreaking grand slam off Aaron Heilman with one out in the eighth inning.
at St. Louis 6, Philadelphia 3: Jason Isringhausen got the final four outs for his first save since May 5.
San Francisco 3, at San Diego 2 (10 innings): Pinch-hitter Eugenio Velez doubled off the wall in right field in the 10th to drive in the go-ahead run.
Arizona 2, at Dodgers 1: Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks ruined Manny Ramirez’s debut.
