Astros stop Cubs in foul-weather game
CHICAGO -- Brian Moehler pitched five sharp innings before two powerful storms rolled into Wrigley Field, and the Houston Astros withstood the wild weather to beat the Chicago Cubs, 2-0, in a rain-shortened game called in the bottom of the eighth Monday night.
Moehler (7-4) gave up four hits. Ryan Dempster (12-5) took the loss despite striking out seven in five innings.
Miguel Tejada singled in the first inning and moved to second base on Lance Berkman’s long fly ball to center field. He scored on Carlos Lee’s single to right field.
Lee made it all the way to third when right fielder Kosuke Fukudome overthrew catcher Geovany Soto for an error.
The Astros made it 2-0 in the fourth when Dempster walked Humberto Quintero with the bases loaded.
