Detainee found dead in jail cell

A 31-year-old man apparently hanged himself while in jail in Hollywood, and the Los Angeles County coroner’s office is investigating the death.
Donald McMasters was arrested on suspicion of robbery at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and was being held at the LAPD Hollywood Division jail. Staff members found his body at 10:45 p.m. while making routine cell checks, the Los Angeles Police Department said Monday in a statement.
Police did not use force during the arrest or detention, according to the statement.
Police investigators said they believed the death was a suicide and have turned the case over to the coroner’s office, said Officer April Harding. Coroner’s investigators did not return calls or e-mails Tuesday morning.
