September getaway to La Jolla

September is a budget-friendly time to escape to Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, 14 miles from downtown San Diego. Rates are 35% to as much as half off.

Deal: The lowest rate I found in the “value dates” section was $209. But when I checked the main reservation section, I found a deluxe king room starting at $155, a veranda king room for $170 (both listed for Sept. 7 to 9) and an estate king for $259 the weekend of Sept. 12 to 14. (These may no longer be available.) There is a $12-a-day resort fee that includes Wi-Fi, newspaper, gourmet coffee in your room and access to the business center. You also get free local calls. The $25-a-day valet fee is mandatory for those bringing cars.
