Police on Sunday were seeking two people who held a 1-year-old boy hostage in an SUV in Pasadena while forcing his mother to withdraw money from a bank and retrieve jewelry from her home to win her son’s release.

There was no indication that the robbers had a weapon, police said.

The 25-year-old mother was walking with her son to Allendale Park about 10:30 a.m. Saturday when a woman in her 60s approached and asked for money, said Pasadena Police Lt. Chris Russ. The mother refused, and the woman grabbed her arm and forced her and her son into a red SUV, Russ said.

A man, also believed to be in his 60s, drove the SUV to a bank, where the mother was told to withdraw all her money. She was then driven to her home, where the robbers demanded jewelry. Both robbers waited in the car with the child while the mother went inside, Russ said. When she returned with the jewelry, the robbers released her son and drove away.
