John Brady was fired as Louisiana State’s coach Friday, his team struggling with an 8-13 record.

Brady was the third-winningest coach in the university’s history. His 192-139 record included two first-place finishes in the Southeastern Conference and a trip to the Final Four in 2006.

But after that 27-9 season the team fell to 17-15 for 2006-07, with a 5-11 conference mark, and things got worse this season (1-6).

Associate head coach Butch Pierre will take over for the rest of the season.

Junior forward Kyle Spain was suspended indefinitely by San Diego State Coach Steve Fisher for an unspecified violation of team policy.

Spain is the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 13.2 points to go along with 5.4 rebounds. He has started 19 of the 20 games in which he has played this season.

Tennessee star Candace Parker has a bruised left knee, and is listed as day-to-day by the school medical staff.

Doctors found no serious damage to the knee a day after the 6-foot-4 junior crashed to the floor late in the second-ranked Lady Vols’ 87-69 victory over Mississippi State.

Coach Pat Summitt said if Parker is not 100%, she will not play when the Lady Vols play host to No. 7 Rutgers on Monday.

Parker has had two previous surgeries on the knee to repair a torn ligament.

A judge tossed out a $19.1-million judgment awarded to former Fresno State women’s coach Stacy Johnson-Klein, who had sued the school claiming gender discrimination, and ordered a new trial unless she accepts a smaller sum.

The judge said Johnson-Klein has until Feb. 22 to decide whether she’ll accept a $6.6- million award instead.
