* at Carolina 4, Pittsburgh 2: Ray Whitney had a goal and two assists and the Hurricanes vaulted back into first place in the Southeast Division. Carolina had an overwhelming 46-22 advantage in shots and won its second in a row.

* Tampa Bay 5, at Philadelphia 3: Martin St. Louis had a goal and two assists to help the Lightning hand the Flyers a fifth consecutive loss.

* N.Y. Islanders 5, at Toronto 4: Ruslan Fedotenko scored two of the Islanders’ four power-play goals and New York earned its second victory in a row.

* Chicago 6, at Nashville 1: Jonathan Toews scored two goals and assisted on another in the Blackhawks’ victory. Duncan Keith, Rene Bourque, Cam Barker and Patrick Sharp also scored for Chicago. Jason Arnott scored for the Predators.

* at Phoenix 5, Dallas 2: Radim Vrbata scored a short-handed goal and added two assists to help the Coyotes end a four-game losing streak. Matt Niskanen and Jussi Jokinen scored for Dallas.

* St. Louis 4, at Colorado 1: Ryan Johnson scored the Blues’ second short-handed goal of the season and Manny Legace stopped 39 shots. Paul Kariya and Jay McClement scored first-period goals for St. Louis, winners of two in a row.

* Edmonton 3, at San Jose 2: Alex Hemsky, Kyle Brodziak and Fernando Pisani scored for the Oilers. Mathieu Garon stopped 28 shots and earned his 19th win. The Oilers have won two in a row. San Jose captain Patrick Marleau missed his second consecutive game because of a groin injury.

* Minnesota 5, at Vancouver 4: Mikko Koivu scored the winning goal in a shootout and the Wild recovered from two blown leads in the third period.
