No. 1 no more. And the perfect season is gone as well.

Tyler Smith made a turnaround jumper in the lane with 26.5 seconds left and No. 2 Tennessee defeated the nation’s last unbeaten team, edging top-ranked Memphis, 66-62, Saturday night at Memphis, Tenn.

Tennessee (25-2) won on a night when star guard Chris Lofton scored only seven points, beating the Tigers with a dominating performance on the boards. Lofton did finish it off, though, making two free throws with 4.5 seconds to go after Memphis intentionally missed at the line.

Memphis (26-1) lost at home for the first time since Jan. 2, 2006, ending the nation’s longest home winning streak at 47 games.

“We’ve just got to learn from it. We lost,” Robert Dozier said. “They just out-toughed us. They got every loose ball, every offensive rebound. They just outplayed us.”

The Tigers had hoped to use this game to show their lofty record was proof they were the nation’s best team, not the beneficiaries of playing in an unheralded league, Conference USA.

And, of course, they wanted to stay on track to become the first team since Indiana in 1976 to make it all the way through the season with a perfect record.

But the Hoosiers can rest easy. At the end, Tennessee’s players walked off the court in triumph, holding up the name across the front of their orange jerseys.

Derrick Rose led Memphis with 23 points, but Chris Douglas-Roberts was the only other player in double figures with 14 points.

Oklahoma State 61, No. 4 Kansas 60 -- Byron Eaton scored a career-high 26 points, including the game-winning free throw with 12.6 seconds left at Stillwater, Okla., and the Cowboys (14-12, 5-7) knocked the Jayhawks (24-3, 9-3) out of first place in the Big 12 Conference.

The Jayhawks rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit to take a 58-54 lead in the final three minutes. But the Cowboys finished strong to knock Kansas out of a first-place tie with No. 7 Texas, which beat Oklahoma, 62-45.

Darnell Jackson led Kansas with 16 points and 10 rebounds while playing three days after his 19-year-old cousin, Kascey Corie McClellan, died after getting shot earlier this month at an Oklahoma City nightclub. Backup guard Rodrick Stewart also played three days after Allen Stewart, his cousin and adopted brother, was shot and killed in Seattle.

No. 16 Drake 71, No. 8 Butler 64 -- Sophomore Josh Young made three game-clinching free throws after he was fouled on a desperation three-point attempt with 20 seconds left at Indianapolis, giving the Bulldogs their first victory over a top-10 team since a 56-55 win over No. 7 Tulsa in 1982.

Drake (24-3) ended a nine-game winning streak for Butler (25-3), which led by four points midway through the second half but went scoreless for almost five minutes during a decisive 9-0 run by the Bulldogs.

Villanova 67, No. 13 Connecticut 65 -- The Wildcats (17-9, 7-7 Big East) upset the Huskies (21-6, 10-4) at Philadelphia, ending their 10-game winning streak. Villanova took a 66-62 lead on a driving layup by Scottie Reynolds over the outstretched arms of 7-foot-3 Hasheem Thabeet with 39 seconds left.

No. 15 Indiana 85, Northwestern 82 -- A day after Indiana bought out Coach Kelvin Sampson’s contract and players threatened to boycott the game, the Hoosiers (23-4, 13-2 Big Ten) held off the Wildcats (7-18, 0-14) at Evanston, Ill.

D.J. White deflected a potential go-ahead layup by Northwestern’s Michael Thompson, then made two free throws to make it 85-82 with five seconds left. Thompson missed a three-pointer at the buzzer, and the Hoosiers moved into a three-way tie for first with Wisconsin and Purdue.
