No. 17 Washington State upset by Arizona, 65-55

Chase Budinger scored 22 points and Jerryd Bayless had all 20 of his points in the second half to help Arizona upset No. 17 Washington State, 65-55, on Saturday night at Pullman, Wash.

Jordan Hill scored 13 for the Wildcats (17-10 overall, 6-8 in the Pacific 10), who avoided a third consecutive loss.

Arizona is trying to keep alive its streak of 23 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

Taylor Rochestie scored 14 points and Derrick Low had 12 for the Cougars, who made only 17 of 50 shots.

Arizona, meanwhile, made 23 of 46 shots, including eight of 14 three-point attempts.

Arizona swept Washington State (21-6, 9-6) in the season series. The Wildcats won, 76-64, at Tucson on Jan. 24.

Bayless opened the second half with a runner and made two three-point shots. The Wildcats used an 8-2 run to take a 46-39 lead midway through the half.

After Washington State pulled the score to 55-51, Budinger made a three-pointer and the Cougars never threatened again.

Aron Baynes, the star of Washington State’s 59-47 victory over Arizona State on Thursday, was held to two points.

Arizona State 77, Washington 63 -- Freshman James Harden recovered from a cold night Thursday at Pullman with 25 points at Seattle to help the Sun Devils (17-9, 7-7) end an 11-game losing streak to the Huskies (15-13, 6-9).

Harden had only 10 points on three-for-10 shooting in a 12-point loss at No. 17 Washington State. He had that many during the first 14 1/2 minutes. Harden, driving inside and shooting outside, set a team freshman record with his 13th game with 20 points or more, one more than Ike Diogu.

Washington’s Jon Brockman had 21 points and 15 rebounds, his 20th double-double of the season.
