at Carolina 2, New Jersey 1 (OT): Sergei Samsonov tapped in his rebound with 3:24 left in overtime and the Hurricanes ended the Devils’ five-game winning streak. Carolina won its third in a row. The Devils are 7-0-2 in their last nine games.

at Washington 4, Minnesota 1: Brooks Laich had two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Capitals to their first victory in four games. Minnesota lost its fourth game in a row.

Pittsburgh 4, at N.Y. Islanders 2: Evgeni Malkin and Jeff Taffe scored first-period goals for the Penguins. Ty Conklin kept Pittsburgh in front throughout by stopping a career-high 50 shots. New York dropped its second in a row after a six-game winning streak.

at Boston 4, Ottawa 0: David Krejci scored his first NHL goal and Tim Thomas stopped 22 shots for his second shutout of the season. The Bruins have won four games in a row. Martin Gerber made 25 saves for the Senators, who lead the NHL with 210 goals but were shut out for the second consecutive game.

at Montreal 5, Atlanta 1: Chris Higgins had two goals and an assist and the Canadiens scored four times in the first half of the third period. Carey Price stopped 26 shots and Maxim Lapierre also scored for Montreal. Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 41st goal in the second period for the Thrashers.

Dallas 3, at St. Louis 1: Loui Eriksson scored twice and Mike Ribeiro had two assists in a three-goal third period for the Stars, who trailed 1-0 entering the third period. The Blues, who have dropped four in a row (0-3-1), got a first-period goal from Keith Tkachuk.

at Edmonton 4, Detroit 3 (SO): Robert Nilsson scored the lone goal in the shootout, giving the Oilers their NHL-record 13th shootout victory this season. Edmonton forced overtime when Fernando Pisani scored with only 28 seconds left to play in regulation.

Colorado 3, at Calgary 2 (OT): Paul Stastny set up the tying goal, then scored the overtime winner. The Avalanche entered with the NHL’s worst power play but scored the tying and winning goals with the extra man. Colorado tied it at 13:33 of the third period when Milan Hejduk wristed a shot inside the far post from the faceoff dot.
