A fair of photo art

Collectors and others fascinated by photo images can see what’s new -- and old -- this weekend at L.A.’s longest running art fair. Photo L.A. will feature a mix of dealers from around the world who will display works spanning vintage to video. Look for outsider and emerging works too, with some items priced as low as $25. Organizer Stephen Cohen sees the event as an opportunity for collectors to educate their eyes. “People can refine their taste by looking,” he says. “They are bound to find something they like.” The leap from Ansel Adams to vernacular work (amateur family pictures, forensic photos, accident scenes) may seem like a big one, but Cohen is excited by the opportunity for collectors and curators to compare contemporary artists. “I always love to see what the other dealers bring and get an education,” he says.
