* at Ottawa 3, Detroit 2: Daniel Alfredsson scored his second power-play goal with 2:56 remaining and the Senators won a matchup of the NHL’s top teams. Ray Emery made 27 saves for his third win in a row and the Senators extended their winning streak to four. Ottawa’s Dany Heatley left the game because of an apparent right shoulder injury.

* New Jersey 3, at Buffalo 2: Patrik Elias and Zach Parise scored shootout goals to help the Devils extend the Sabres’ winless streak to nine games.

* at Atlanta 3, Pittsburgh 2 (SO): Mark Recchi, playing against his former teammates, scored the only goal in a shootout to give the Thrashers the win. Sidney Crosby scored two goals for Pittsburgh, but he and three teammates were denied in the shootout by Kari Lehtonen.

* at N.Y. Rangers 4, Montreal 1: Petr Prucha and Nigel Dawes had a goal and an assist apiece and the Rangers ended their five-game losing streak.

* Colorado 5, at Carolina 4: Marek Svatos capped a third-period rally with two goals and the Avalance rallied three times from two-goal deficits to beat the Hurricanes. The Avalanche ended a two-game losing streak.

* Tampa Bay 5, at Florida 3: Nick Tarnasky and Brad Richards each scored two goals to help the Lightning win for only the third time in 14 games and for the second time in seven on the road.

* Boston 4, at Philadelphia 3 (OT): Aaron Ward scored 43 seconds into overtime and the Bruins ended a two-game losing streak. Marco Sturm, Marc Savard and Peter Schaefer also scored for Boston.

* at Columbus 2, Nashville 1 (SO): Nikolai Zherdev scored the lone shootout goal and set up the tying goal in regulation to help the Blue Jackets end a 12-game losing streak against the Predators. Pascal Leclaire stopped all three shooters in the tiebreaker and made 26 saves in regulation and overtime for Columbus.

* at San Jose 3, Toronto 2: Joe Pavelski deflected home the go-ahead goal with 9:39 to play and the Sharks rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period for their seventh victory in eight games. Toronto has won only two of its 13 games over the last four weeks.

* at Kings 4, Dallas 3: Patrick O’Sullivan scored the deciding goal in a shootout.
