at Boston 12, Baltimore 1: Kevin Youkilis had a career-high six RBIs, thanks to his first grand slam, and Tim Wakefield pitched seven innings of two-hit ball. “I was the beneficiary of a lot of runs scored tonight,” said Wakefield, who retired the last 13 batters he faced. “So that made my job a lot easier after the third inning.”

New York 9, at Toronto 4: Alex Rodriguez hit his 192nd home run with the Yankees, tying Tino Martinez for 15th place on the franchise list. He has 47 homers against the Blue Jays, his second-highest total against any opponent. He has hit 58 homers against the Angels.

Minnesota 6, at Detroit 5: The Twins, who improved to 21-6 since June 13 -- the majors’ best record during that span -- are 27-16 against Central Division teams this season. The Tigers are 4-10 against Minnesota and 13-24 against Central teams.

at Cleveland 8, Tampa Bay 4: Ryan Garko drove in five runs to help Matt Ginter earn his first major league win in more than four years. It was Ginter’s first major league start since Sept. 18, 2005, for Detroit. He last won with the New York Mets on May 21, 2004.

at Kansas City 5, Seattle 4: David DeJesus hit a two-run homer with two out in the ninth inning. Mariners closer Brandon Morrow retired the first two batters before walking pinch-hitter Billy Butler on four pitches. DeJesus hit Morrow’s next pitch over the right-field fence and into the Royals’ bullpen.

Chicago 9, at Texas 7: Carlos Quentin’s two-run single in the sixth inning put the White Sox ahead to stay. The Rangers’ Ian Kinsler extended his hitting streak to 24 games, longest in the majors this season.

Angels 4, at Oakland 1: Ervin Santana lowered his earned-run average against the A’s to 1.36.
