Update -- Chivas, currently tied for first in the MLS Western Conference, will take on defending SuperLiga champion and Mexican league member Pachuca to open this year’s tournament. “This competition is very important, with the participation of both countries,” Chivas midfielder Paulo Nagamura said. “Chivas has the opportunity to demonstrate how well we play internationally.” Pachuca also won its second straight CONCACAF Champions Cup in May. Chivas is led by forward Ante Razov (four goals, two assists) and midfielder Sacha Kljestan (five goals, four assists). But Chivas is expected to be without 2007 MLS goalkeeper of the year Brad Guzan, who agreed to a transfer to play for Aston Villa of the English Premier League pending approval of a British work permit.
