Fox wins among young adults

Thanks to the July 8 finale of the reality show “Hell’s Kitchen,” Fox saw another win among young-adult viewers for the week ending July 13.

Fox’s cooking competition show was No. 1 among adults ages 18-49 (and No. 9 overall, with 8.9 million viewers), according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. The network has won 26 of the last 27 weeks in that key demographic, the preferred audience for many advertisers.

As might be expected in midsummer, the top 10 among the 18-49 demographic consisted almost entirely of reality shows, including ABC’s “Wipeout” and “The Bachelorette” and NBC’s “The Baby Borrowers.” The lone scripted entry was a repeat of CBS’ sitcom “Two and a Half Men.”

The week’s most-watched program overall was NBC’s Tuesday installment of “America’s Got Talent,” with 12.7 million viewers. The debut of CBS’ “Greatest American Dog” marked its territory with 9.5 million viewers, good enough to tie at No. 5 with “The Bachelorette.”

On the strength of series repeats such as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” CBS was No. 1 overall, averaging 6.9 million viewers for its prime-time programming last week, trailed by Fox (5.8 million), ABC (5.5 million) and NBC (5.5 million).

The Miss Universe Pageant on NBC skidded to a record low Sunday night, with just 6.7 million people tuning in, off 7% from last year’s then-all-time low.

On basic cable, USA had an especially strong week, scoring five of the six most-watched programs. That included the Season 2 premiere of the drama “Burn Notice” (5.4 million) and the Sunday installment of “In Plain Sight” (5.1 million). The top-rated cable show was USA’s “WWE Raw” with 5.8 million viewers.

ABC Family’s Sunday original movie “Picture This!” starring Ashley Tisdale, drew 4.3 million viewers.
