Crews, helicopters control blaze above Pasadena

A brush fire in the foothills above eastern Pasadena on Friday burned five acres before firefighters got it under control.

Officials said they had detained three juveniles and were questioning them about the origins of the fire.

The blaze above the top of Hastings Ranch Drive began about 3 p.m. and moved uphill into the Angeles National Forest away from homes, officials said.

Pasadena, county and U.S. Forest Service firefighters tackled the blaze on the steep ridgelines above eastern Pasadena, said Lisa Derderian, a Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman. “She said the lack of wind aided firefighters.
