HIT AND MISS
* HIT: With a 16-foot one-putt on No. 14, a six-foot one-putt on No. 15, a 17-foot one-putt on No. 16, a two-foot one-putt on No. 17 and a 25-foot one-putt on No. 18, Camilo Villegas not only finished a celestial 65 but got around in 23 putts after 34 on Thursday. “I believe I had like 176 to the pin [on 18] and I hit pitching wedge,” the 26-year-old Colombian said in reference to the wind. “That tells you how funky it is to play golf around here.”
* MISS: In shocking bookend howlers, Sergio Garcia missed par putts inside two feet on Nos. 1 and 18, leaving him six shots out of the lead in a tournament he led after two rounds last year at Carnoustie. “While I appeared calm on the outside,” he said of his 18-inch miss on No. 18, “the things I was saying to myself were not very nice.”
