A Riverside teenager accused of sexually molesting a 9-year-old boy with a toy light saber was charged as an adult Wednesday by Orange County prosecutors, authorities said.

Javier Enrique Perez, 16, was charged with three felonies for allegedly attacking the boy, whose mother had left him with a baby-sitter in Santa Ana before she went to work on July 16, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Perez was in the home along with several other children ranging in age from 8 to 19, prosecutors said. As two other boys watched, prosecutors said, Perez assaulted the 9-year-old with the help of a younger boy who followed his instructions.

Perez is accused of bending the boy over the kitchen table, holding him down and penetrating him with his hand and the toy light saber. When the assault was over, he warned the other boys not to tell anyone, prosecutors said.

When the boy’s mother picked him up about 9 p.m., he told her about the attack. She took him to the hospital and the crime was reported to police, authorities said.

Perez is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual penetration by a foreign object by force and rape by a foreign object.

He is being held on $1-million bail and faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges. Perez’s next court appearance is set for Aug. 8.
