Tampa Bay 5, at Kansas City 3: Edwin Jackson (6-7) surpassed his victory total for last season and the Rays ended a seven-game road losing streak to move one game in front of Boston in the AL East. It was their first road victory since June 29, at Pittsburgh.

Chicago 6, at Detroit 5: Jermaine Dye hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning for the White Sox, who rallied to win in the ninth for the first time in 39 games. Todd Jones (4-1) was an out away from ending the game before blowing his third save in 22 chances.

at Cleveland 5, Minnesota 4: Cliff Lee became the major leagues’ first 14-game winner and the Indians ended an eight-game losing streak against AL Central teams. Lee is on pace to become Cleveland’s first 20-game winner since Gaylord Perry in 1974. The Twins lost their fifth straight.

at Toronto 5, Seattle 4 (10 innings): Joe Inglett’s two-run single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning won it for the Blue Jays, who handed the Mariners their sixth consecutive loss.

Texas 14, at Oakland 6: Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer to reach 100 RBIs for the season and the Rangers erased a five-run deficit, then scored eight runs in the ninth inning to break it open.

New York 1, at Boston 0: Joba Chamberlain’s best major league start helped the Yankees move two games behind the Red Sox and stay three back of AL East leader Tampa Bay.

Angels 6, at Baltimore 5: Juan Rivera and Casey Kotchman homered and Joe Saunders got his 13th win.
