A teenage girl was killed and a man critically burned in a fiery multi-vehicle crash on the 405 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.

Three vehicles crashed about 9:40 p.m. Sunday on the southbound side of the freeway at Victory Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Darren Van Dyk. As many as seven other motorists who tried to avoid the wreckage were also involved in the pileup.

The girl was trapped in a vehicle and died at the scene, Van Dyk said. Authorities did not release her name.

Three Los Angeles police officers, aided by motorists, pulled an injured driver from a burning vehicle. He was taken to a hospital with critical burn injuries but was expected to survive, Van Dyk said.

All southbound lanes were closed until 2:15 a.m. Monday as the crash was investigated, Van Dyk said. Drugs and alcohol were not factors, he said.
