A 1-year-old boy bitten by a pit bull was in critical condition Wednesday at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, authorities said.
The boy’s mother called 911 after at least one of the family’s two pit bulls bit her son on a cheek, said Sgt. Rudy Alaniz of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Firefighters responded to the 13000 block of Louvre Street at 11:06 a.m., said d’Lisa Davies, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters used an extinguisher to spray the dog so paramedics could reach the boy, officials said.
The boy was airlifted by helicopter from nearby Paxton Park, Davies said. The two dogs were taken by animal control officers.
