She set the standard

Re “Executive led art museum’s growth,” obituary, June 3

The Times vastly understates Anne d’Harnoncourt’s contribution to the soul of the profession of art museum directors.

The former director of the Philadelphia Museum of Art was the most gracious, generous, open, decorous and articulate -- and the least self-aggrandizing, self-satisfied, self-promoting and pompous -- art museum director in the country.

She was more devoted to the advancement of art, audience and art museums than she was to her own personal career advancement or monetary remuneration. She set the standard for professional performance for all of us. No one else comes close. What a loss!
