*--* P Gerrit Cole Orange Lutheran Sr. With region’s best fastball, Cole went 8-2 with 0.46 ERA. He struck out 121 batters in 75 2/3 innings and walked only 18. First-round draft choice of the New York Yankees (No. 28). P Trevor Bauer Hart Jr. Steady right-hander was 12-0 with 0.79 ERA and four shutouts. Did not allow a run over the last 24 innings of season. Also had 106 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings and walked only 15. C Kyle Skipworth Patriot Sr. Batted .543 from left side of the plate, with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs. Set state record with 18 consecutive hits, while reaching base in 25 plate appearances in a row. Drafted sixth overall by Florida. 1B Jordan Fox Bishop Amat Sr. Batted a team-high .536 for Division V champions, driving in 30 runs and scoring 41. Went nine for 13 in final three games. Also stole a team-leading 11 bases. Signed with UC Irvine. IF Jonathan Meyer Simi Valley Jr. Shortstop batted .387 with nine home runs and 43 RBIs for Division I champions. In semifinal victory over Mater Dei, threw 4 2/3 innings of relief, his longest stretch of season. Committed to Cal State Fullerton. IF Tyler Rahmatulla Mater Dei Sr. Two-time Trinity League player of the year batted .409 with 24 RBIs and 18 stolen bases for the Division I semifinalists. Displayed soft hands and excellent range at shortstop. Signed with UCLA. IF Nolan Arenado El Toro Jr. Shortstop led the Division II champions in nearly every offensive category, including hitting (.456), RBIs (32) and runs scored (33). Struck out only six times in 120 plate appearances. OF Tyler Chatwood Redlands E. Valley Sr. Angels’ top draft pick at No. 74 overall, batted a team-high .521 in leading REV to Division II final. Slammed 13 doubles, six triples and struck out only seven times in 110 plate appearances. Was 9-1 with an 0.81 ERA. OF Cutter Dykstra Westlake Sr. Pesky leadoff hitter moved from shortstop to center field this season and didn’t skip a beat, hitting .473 with 10 stolen bases and 40 runs scored. Drafted 54th overall by Milwaukee. OF Aaron Hicks Long Beach Wilson Sr. Batted .473 with 21 extra-base hits, 50 runs scored and 37 stolen bases for Division I finalists. On the mound, he was 8-2 with a 1.16 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 72 1/3 innings. Drafted 14th overall by Minnesota. UTIL Matt Hobgood Norco Jr. Hard-throwing right-hander was 10-0 with a 1.34 ERA for Division I semifinalists. His 15 home runs also tied for third in state. Hit .489 with 45 RBIs. Committed to Cal State Fullerton. Coach of year: Matt La Belle, Simi Valley Pulled all the right strings in leading the Pioneers to Marmonte League co-championship and Division I title, beating defending champion Long Beach Wilson in final. *--*
