* at New York Yankees 8, San Diego 0: Jason Giambi homered twice and Andy Pettitte looked particularly sharp in an easy outing as the Yankees won their fifth in a row. The Yankees have tossed consecutive shutouts for the first time since May 7-8, 2005, against Oakland.

* Boston 3, at Philadelphia 0: Jon Lester struck out five over seven shutout innings and Coco Crisp homered for the Red Sox. Before the game, the Red Sox put pitcher Bartolo Colon on the 15-day disabled list because of a stiff lower back.

* at Baltimore 6, Houston 5: Melvin Mora hit a two-run double in the eighth inning to cap yet another rally by the Orioles. It was the major league-leading 16th time this season that Baltimore rallied from a two-run deficit to win.

* at Milwaukee 7, Toronto 0: Manny Parra scattered four hits in seven scoreless innings and Ryan Braun hit two of Milwaukee’s five homers.

* Kansas City 2, at St. Louis 1: Mike Aviles homered to break an eighth-inning tie and David DeJesus contributed his sixth RBI in two games for the Royals.

* at Tampa Bay 3, Chicago Cubs 2: Cliff Floyd and Evan Longoria hit solo home runs to spoil Lou Piniella’s return to Tropicana Field.

* at Texas 7, Atlanta 5: Josh Hamilton put Texas ahead to stay with his American League-best 19th homer.

* at Chicago White Sox 16, Pittsburgh 5: Jermaine Dye, Joe Crede, Orlando Cabrera and Jim Thome homered as the White Sox registered season highs in runs and hits. Thome hit a three-run homer, Dye had a solo homer and a two-run double, Crede a two-run homer and run-scoring double, and Cabrera a two-run homer and sacrifice fly.

* at Colorado 10, Cleveland 2: Greg Reynolds pitched six strong innings for the Rockies and was two for three with a run scored.

* at Minnesota 2, Washington 1: Livan Hernandez (7-4) won his first game in more than a month, giving up one run and five hits in seven innings.

* Oakland 15, at Arizona 1: Mark Ellis hit two home runs to lead a six-homer barrage by the Athletics. Eric Chavez, Kurt Suzuki, Bobby Crosby and Rajai Davis also homered for Oakland, which won its fourth straight. Ellis doubled in the first and hit a solo homer in the second against Brandon Webb, and he added a three-run shot in the ninth.

* at Seattle 5, Florida 4: Felix Hernandez was overpowering for the first five innings, then scrambled to hold his lead as the Mariners ended an eight-game home losing streak.

* Detroit 5, at San Francisco 1: Marcus Thames matched a Detroit team record by homering in his fifth straight game and Tigers shortstop Edgar Renteria recorded his 2,000th hit.

* at Angels 6, New York Mets 1: John Lackey scattered six hits over seven-plus innings for the Angels.

* Dodgers 3, at Cincinnati 1: Chad Billingsley took a shutout into the seventh inning and the Dodgers ended a losing streak at five games.
