Twentieth Century Fox recently restored the 1964 classic “Zorba the Greek,” starring Anthony Quinn (pictured with Eleni Anousaki) in his Oscar-nominated performance, to its former glory. It’ll make its debut as the opening-night presentation of the second annual Greek Film Festival, Wednesday at the Egyptian Theatre. The festival, running through June 29 mostly at the Linwood Dunn Theater, features a tribute to the late John Cassavetes with a reunion screening of “Faces,” and such contemporary films as “Alter Ego” and “Little Greek Godfather,” which closes the festival (lagreekfilmfestival.org; for a photo gallery of films, go to latimes.com/greek). . . . The Silent Movie Theatre’s Folk Americana series tonight will show two documentaries from Murray Lerner: “Festival,” chronicling the New York Folk Festival from 1963-65, and “The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival,” which focuses on the legendary rocker’s performances, including his controversial “electric” presentation in 1965. . . . Screening at the theater’s Femme Fatale Hall of Fame Saturday matinee is one of the great film noirs -- 1946’s “Gilda,” starring Rita Hayworth as the gal who wraps small-time crook Glenn Ford around her little finger while singing “Put the Blame on Mame.” Actually, Hayworth wasn’t a singer and was dubbed in by Anita Ellis (silentmovietheatre.com). . . . The Los Angeles Film Festival’s Preservation Screening Program series will present the UCLA Film and Television Archive’s restoration of John Cassavetes’ first directorial feature, “Shadows,” at the Billy Wilder Theatre on Wednesday. In conjunction with its exhibition “Mami Wata: Arts for Water Spirits in Africa and Its Diasporas,” the UCLA Fowler Museum will show the 1904 George Melies short “La Sirene” and the 1948 comedy “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid,” starring William Powell and Ann Blyth, on Wednesday afternoon (fowler.ucla.edu).
