Judge delays hearing in hacking case
Arraignment for a Tesoro High School senior facing 69 felony counts and possibly decades in prison for allegedly breaking into the school and hacking into computers there was postponed Thursday by an Orange County judge.
Omar Khan, 18, will be arraigned July 8 at the Harbor Justice Center along with another Tesoro senior, 18-year-old Tanvir Singh, who is accused of burglary, conspiracy and other charges and faces three years in prison if convicted.
Khan arrived in court Thursday with about half a dozen family and friends and sat anxiously in the front row. He and his family declined to comment about the allegations against him, including stealing teachers’ computer passwords, changing other students’ grades, stealing tests and installing spyware on school computers.
Khan could face more than 38 years in prison.
“Omar and his family . . . they’re very anxious to share the real facts in this case,” Khan’s attorney, Carol Lavacot, said. Khan was enrolled in a heavy load of advanced placement classes -- including calculus, government, history, physics and statistics.
