Hollywood revue of homegrown stars

Theodore Payne goes Hollywood? The Sun Valley-based native plants foundation have begun setting up a mini nursery at the Hollywood Farmers Market. One Sunday last month, volunteers were offering advice while selling succulents, sages and a variety of ceanothus. Although the selection represents only 10% of the organization’s nursery, representatives say they are bringing the best plants: shrubs, ground covers, flowering perennials, even some rare California native bulbs in 4-inch pots during one recent visit. Shoppers also can pick up free fliers on attracting butterflies and birds, controlling erosion and gardening in clay soil. 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays at Ivar and Selma avenues, Los Angeles. Information: (818) 768-1802.
