Anaheim man is held in stabbings
An Anaheim man was arrested in North Las Vegas early Friday on suspicion of randomly stabbing two people as they watched a horror film in a Fullerton theater last month, police said.
Steven Walter Robinson Jr., 24, was arrested by North Las Vegas and Fullerton police officers as he stepped from a relative’s home about 1:25 a.m., authorities said. He was ordered held at the North Las Vegas Justice Facility, where he awaits extradition. A hearing has been set for next week.
Robinson had been on the run since Feb. 24, when he stabbed two patrons during a screening of “The Signal” at the AMC Fullerton 20 on South Lemon Street, authorities said.
He had twice been kicked out of the theater that day for possession of alcohol and for appearing drunk before he attacked the moviegoers, police and theater officials said.
Robinson has not told authorities what prompted the attacks, according to Fullerton Police Sgt. Linda King. However, detectives believe he may have been under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms.
He could face attempted murder charges. Both victims, one of whom suffered a punctured lung, have been released from St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton.
Authorities got a break in the case when someone recognized a publicized police sketch of the suspect and called Fullerton police, who in turn showed a Department of Motor Vehicles photo of Robinson to witnesses from the theater, King said.
As police checked several addresses associated with Robinson, investigators heard he had told friends he needed to leave town, King said.
