* No. 5 Michigan State 72, No. 12 Temple 61: Raymar Morgan led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points at Denver and the Spartans (26-8) eliminated the Owls (21-13), who made their first trip to the NCAA tournament since losing to the Spartans in a 2001 regional final. The Spartans used a 15-2 run to take a 35-26 halftime lead. They pushed their edge to 19 points with 8:49 left before the Owls made a run to make it respectable. Chris Allen scored 12 points and Drew Naymick had 10 for Michigan State. Mark Tyndale scored 16 points for Temple, but Dionte Christmas, the Owls’ leading scorer, was limited to three points, on one-for-12 shooting.

* No. 4 Pittsburgh 82, No. 13 Oral Roberts 63: Levance Fields scored 23 points and the Panthers (27-9) had no problem with the Golden Eagles (24-9) at Denver in winning their sixth straight game. The Panthers ended it early with an 18-0 run over a 5 1/2 -minute span of the first half to go ahead, 28-13. Sam Young, star of Pittsburgh’s run through the Big East tournament title, had 14 points. DeJuan Blair finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Blair’s 265-pound frame made things impossible in the paint for Oral Roberts, which at one point late in the first half was five of nine from three-point range but one for 16 from elsewhere. Robert Jarvis scored 16 for Oral Roberts.
