A 45-year-old Los Angeles woman suspected of carrying out four bank robberies over the last three weeks in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach surrendered to police and federal agents Saturday, authorities said.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said agents identified Felicia Ellen Jones as the “Weathergirl Bandit,” a woman who handed bank tellers notes demanding money while chatting with them about the weather.

The robber complimented a teller on her nail polish in one incident and apologized for committing the robbery in another, Eimiller said.

“It was very friendly and polite conversation, but again, her notes were demanding cash,” she said.

The FBI and Manhattan Beach Police Department both received tips on Jones’ whereabouts after photos from bank surveillance cameras were shown on television and elsewhere. Although agents initially thought they had convinced Jones to turn herself in Friday, she did not surrender until Saturday afternoon at a church in Compton.

Jones is expected to appear in federal court Monday, facing charges of bank robbery.
