Sara Jane Olson returns to prison
Former 1970s radical Sara Jane Olson returned to the Central California prison where she spent six years before her short-lived release last week, a corrections department spokesman said Sunday.
The onetime Symbionese Liberation Army member arrived at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla about 9 p.m. Saturday, said Seth Unger of the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Olson’s return came after corrections officials said a miscalculation had resulted in her early release. She will not be eligible for parole until next March, officials said.
Olson, 61, was released from the facility Monday after serving half of what was originally calculated as a 12-year sentence. She was intercepted at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday night and told her right to leave the state had been rescinded.
Olson’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, said she might seek a hearing before the judge who first sentenced Olson to request an early release.
Olson, formerly known as Kathleen Soliah, was charged in 1975 with attempting to bomb police cars with the SLA, a group best known for kidnapping newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst.
