* at N.Y. Islanders 4, Pittsburgh 1: Bill Guerin had a goal and assist in the decisive second period for the Islanders, who prevented the Penguins from clinching a playoff spot. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby sat out his sixth straight game, and Pittsburgh is 15-8-4 without him this season.

* at Montreal 7, Ottawa 5: Andrei Kostitsyn scored two of Montreal’s three first-period goals, and the Canadiens clinched a playoff spot.

* at Colorado 2, Calgary 0: The Avalanche ended a four-game losing streak behind Jose Theodore’s third shutout of the season. The skid had sent Colorado from first place in the Northwest Division to clinging to the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

* at Edmonton 5, Minnesota 3: Andrew Cogliano scored two goals for the Oilers, who won for the sixth time in their last seven games and passed idle Nashville into ninth place in the Western Conference.
