LACMA’s festival honoring Hungarian director Bela Tarr comes to a close Friday night with his 2007 mystery “The Man From London” (pictured). Based on the Georges Simenon novel, the thriller marks the first time Tarr has filmed outside his native land -- in this case, England, of course. Oscar winner Tilda Swinton plays a dock worker’s wife, whose life changes drastically when her husband witnesses a murder (lacma.org). . . . The Backlot Film Festival, which takes place Wednesday through April 5 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Culver City, will honor Carl Reiner and screen two of his films, “The Comic” and “All of Me.” The festival, whose name references Culver City’s historic use as a prime Hollywood filming locale, will also show vintage and contemporary fiction films and documentaries (backlotfilmfestival.com). . . . The Aero Theatre is tuning up for its Hollywood Singing & Dancing: The Musicals fest, beginning tonight with a double dose of Bob Fosse: “Cabaret,” starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey in their Oscar-winning roles, and “All That Jazz” with Roy Scheider. “Cabaret” leading man Michael York will appear. On tap for Friday are the Stanley Donen classics “Singin’ in the Rain,” which he co-directed with star Gene Kelly, and “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” Screening Saturday is a 70-millimeter print of 1969’s “Hello, Dolly!” with Barbra Streisand. Rounding out the festival Sunday is the 1951 version of “Show Boat” and 1956’s “Carousel.” Kathryn Grayson, the star of “Show Boat,” is scheduled to appear (aerotheatre.com).
