at Boston 4, Toronto 2: Tim Thomas made 30 saves, Phil Kessel and Peter Schaefer each had a goal and an assist and the Bruins eliminated the Maple Leafs from playoff contention.

at N.Y. Rangers 3, New Jersey 2: Nigel Dawes scored the tiebreaking goal late in the third period and the Rangers beat the Devils for the seventh time in a row. The teams are tied in the Eastern Conference playoff race with 91 points, but New Jersey is ahead because it has more victories than New York.

Buffalo 4, at Ottawa 3 (SO): Jason Pominville and Derek Roy scored in the shootout. The Sabres are three points behind ninth-place Washington and five back of Philadelphia and Boston -- currently tied for seventh -- for a berth in the playoffs.

Atlanta 3, at Florida 2: Mark Recchi scored with 6:13 left to help the Thrashers snap a five-game losing streak. The loss damaged the Panthers’ playoff hopes. Florida has 81 points with four games remaining. Boston and Philadelphia are tied for the last two playoff spots with 88 points.

at Pittsburgh 3, N.Y. Islanders 1: Jarkko Ruutu had a goal and two assists and the Penguins won in Sidney Crosby’s first home game in more than two months. Josef Vasicek had the lone goal for the Islanders, who lost for the eighth time in 10 games.

Washington 4, at Tampa Bay 3 (OT): Tomas Fleischmann scored with 2:33 left in overtime and the Capitals remained two points out of eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

at San Jose 3, Dallas 2 (OT): Joe Thornton banked a power-play goal off defenders with 2:02 left in overtime and the Sharks inched closer to a Pacific Division title, ending a six-game home losing streak against the Stars.

at Kings 4, Phoenix 0: Anze Kopitar had a goal and two assists and Erik Ersberg made 38 saves.
