A member of the school board was arrested early Thursday after allegedly breaking the windows of a home and driving under the influence, authorities said.
Sergio Corona, 34, was being held by Baldwin Park police on charges of felony vandalism, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, being under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with an expired license, Lt. David Reynoso said. Bail was set at $20,000. Corona is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at West Covina Superior Court.
The incident occurred about 1:50 a.m. when police received reports of a man yelling incoherently and breaking the window of a front door at a home in the 13900 block of Sandstone Street.
Officers pulled over a vehicle leaving the scene with its headlights off.
The occupant, who was shirtless and sweating profusely, jumped out and began walking rapidly toward an officer, Reynoso said. After he ignored several commands to stop, the officers Tasered and subdued him, Reynoso said.
The homeowner who called in the initial report said the suspect matched the description of the man breaking windows and yelling, Reynoso said.
