Illustrated Vidal: The Harry N. Abrams publishing house said it plans to release an illustrated memoir by Gore Vidal next year featuring not only his personal reflections but also a scrapbook of his “considerable library of mementos, documents, photos and records.”

Baseball book: Baseball great Mike Piazza, a home-run slugger and 12-time all-star widely regarded as the best hitting catcher in history, is working on a memoir that Simon & Schuster plans to publish in 2010.

Guest star: Bernadette Peters will be a guest star in at least one episode of “Ugly Betty” this season, playing a magazine editor overseeing a training program. The program is expected to air in January.
