Poor Phil!

Share

I owe Phil Anschutz an apology, and I bet that sentence has never before been said or written.

When the Kings unbelievably raised ticket prices over the summer following yet another disastrous season, I blamed Phil for just wanting to line his pockets even more. As the off-season ticked down and no free agents were signed to lucrative contracts, AEG heard my complaints. While the Kings behaved like a small-market team and stubbornly clung to the lowest payroll in the league, Phil was the object of my wrath. When the team has stayed at the salary-cap floor, I have fumed at our absentee and uncaring owner.

But now it all makes sense. On Forbes’ just-released list of the 400 richest Americans, Phil dropped to No. 36 with an estimated $8 billion net worth.
