All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook broke two ribs in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 23-17 loss to Washington on Sunday, though he kept playing and finished the game.

Westbrook missed one game this season with an ankle injury, but it’s too early to know if his latest injury will keep him out of Sunday’s game at San Francisco.

“We just have to see,” Coach Andy Reid said Monday. “We have to see how it all works out and exactly the pain level there. Right now, he’s very sore, so we’ll see how things go over the next few days.”

Westbrook had 84 total yards against the Redskins. He leads the Eagles (2-3) with 194 yards rushing and has six touchdowns, two receiving.

An unapologetic Plaxico Burress rejoined the New York Giants, noting he didn’t lose any sleep after the Giants suspended him for a game for missing a team meeting. The receiver attributed his absence on Sept. 22 to a family emergency, which he described as having to take his son to school.

“It was just a situation I had to deal with that morning, and I made the right decision,” Burress said. “I don’t have any regrets about the decision I made at all.”

Burress said family would still come first next time, but that he would make sure he called to let the Giants know about the problem.
