Theater grant: The Sundance Theatre Institute Program in Beverly Hills has received a $600,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to “further develop and deepen its models of new play development.”

Diamond jubilee: Neil Diamond will be honored as the 2009 MusiCares Person of the Year on Feb. 6, an annual event held before the Grammy Awards that raises money for the Recording Academy’s charitable foundation.
