An Anaheim woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run driving after a traffic accident killed her 14-year- old brother.

The woman was driving her car Oct. 14 with her brother sitting on the trunk when he fell to the road, hit his head and suffered severe injuries. He died the next day.

When paramedics arrived on Via Burton near State College Boulevard, the woman was gone.

The boy’s friends initially said he slipped and fell while running on the street, but police later determined he fell from his sister’s car, said Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

The sister, Yandire Garcia, 23, was arrested Thursday morning when she arrived at the Anaheim police station to retrieve her car, which had been impounded

Police believe that Garcia fled after her brother was injured and kept in touch with his friends by cellphone. Three boys were sitting on the trunk of her car when the 14-year-old fell. They had been tagging businesses in the area, Martinez said.
