Thank you for an insightful article about how some college athletes’ parents communicate with the coaches in hopes of enhancing their kids’ playing times. I look forward to a follow-up article about how college athletes’ parents also communicate with their kids’ teachers about enhancing their educations.

USC has more talent than any other program in the country. Do the math. Some of the players are not going to be happy with their playing time. I don’t understand the parents’ need to meddle with the coaches. All of these young men are adults and should be responsible for interfacing with Pete Carroll and his staff.

Advice to parents of athletes: As a coach for 42 years, 30 as a head coach, my line to parents was: Coaches coach, officials officiate, athletes play, parents parent, fans cheer. Please don’t cross those lines.
