Tulsa routs Central Florida to remain unbeaten

David Johnson threw for 264 yards and a touchdown, ran for two more scores and No. 19 Tulsa overpowered Central Florida, 49-19, Sunday night in the Golden Hurricane’s first game in the top 25 in 17 years.

Damaris Johnson made up for a first-half fumble by returning the second-half kickoff 70 yards to set up a go-ahead touchdown.

David Johnson zoomed in from 10 yards out to give Tulsa (8-0, 5-0 Conference USA) a 21-19 lead, and he kept the nation’s top-ranked offense in gear from there on out.

Central Florida (2-5, 1-2) held Tulsa to a season-low 436 yards, nearly 200 below its 625-yard average, but had only 187 yards of its own.

Hawaii wins

Greg Alexander threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Malcolm Lane with 20 seconds left to lead Hawaii to a 38-31 victory over Nevada in a Western Athletic Conference game late Saturday night.

Alexander, who hasn’t played much since starting the season opener at Florida, came on in the second half and threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns to keep alive bowl hopes for the Warriors (4-4, 3-2).

Nevada fell to 4-4 and 2-2.

Beckum out

Wisconsin tight end Travis Beckum broke his left leg in Saturday’s 27-17 win against Illinois and is out for the season. Beckum had surgery on his fibula Saturday night after injuring it in the third quarter.
