Re “Ire over hanged Palin doll,” Oct. 28

Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, said in regard to a public display of Sarah Palin hanging in effigy that potential hate crimes are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and if the same display had been made of a Barack Obama-like doll, authorities would have to evaluate it independently. “That adds a whole other social, historical hate aspect to the display, and that is embedded in the consciousness of the country,” he said.

Hmm. How about the historical context of women being burned as witches? Or women getting the right to vote 50 years later than African Americans? How is this decree of moral equivalency advocated by a public official? Where are NOW and all of the other organizations claiming to advocate for women?

Honestly. Where is the outrage?
