at Minnesota 98, Sacramento 96: Kevin Love made an impressive NBA debut with 12 points and nine rebounds in 19 minutes and Al Jefferson had 21 points and 10 rebounds to help the Timberwolves hold off the Kings. Love, the fifth overall pick out of UCLA, scored seven points in a 9-4 run that gave Minnesota a six-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

at Houston 82, Memphis 71: Yao Ming had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Ron Artest added 16 points for the Rockets, who won despite shooting 36.8%. Rookie O.J. Mayo (USC) had 10 points, but missed 15 of 20 shots and all seven of his three-pointers for the Grizzlies.

Phoenix 103, at San Antonio 98: Amare Stoudemire scored 22 points and four other Suns scored in double figures to make Terry Porter a winner in his coaching debut. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker each scored 32 points for the Spurs.

Milwaukee 98, at Oklahoma City 87: Michael Redd, Richard Jefferson and Charlie Villanueva each scored 20 points and the Bucks spoiled the Thunder’s debut in Oklahoma City.

at New York 120, Miami 115: Jamal Crawford scored 29 points and Zach Randolph added 20 as the Knicks won their first game under new Coach Mike D’Antoni. Michael Beasley, the No. 2 pick in the draft, had nine points for Miami.

Toronto 95, at Philadelphia 84: Chris Bosh had 27 points and 11 rebounds and Jermaine O’Neal had 17 points in his debut with the Raptors. Elton Brand scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds for the 76ers.

Atlanta 99, at Orlando 85: Joe Johnson scored 25 points and the Hawks held off a late rally by the Magic, which got 22 points from Dwight Howard.

at Utah 98, Denver 94: Carlos Boozer had 25 points and 14 rebounds for the Jazz.

at Detroit 100, Indiana 94: The Pistons used a balanced attack led by Tayshaun Prince (19 points) to win in Michael Curry’s debut as coach.

New Jersey 95, at Washington 85: Vince Carter, selected captain by his teammates, led the Nets with 21 points.

New Orleans 108, at Golden State 103: Chris Paul (21 points, 11 assists) drove for the go-ahead layup with 19.4 seconds left for the Hornets.

Lakers 117, at Clippers 79: Seven Lakers scored in double figures.
