Judge sends molester to rural town

A judge in San Diego has ruled that an elderly man with a history of sexual violence against children should be released to a home in a rural desert community near the Mexican border.

A Superior Court judge issued the ruling Thursday, despite opposition from residents of Boulevard who don’t want 81-year-old John David Norman living nearby.

Norman was convicted of molesting boys in Illinois in 1976 and in Colorado in 1988. He was also convicted in California of distributing child pornography in 1995 and 1998.

In March, a judge said Norman should return to society after six years in an inpatient treatment program. Under Jessica’s Law, state officials must place sexually violent predators in rural areas away from facilities used by children.
