Deputy shoots man in Homeland
A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy responding to a domestic disturbance call over the weekend shot and wounded a man who came at him with a knife, authorities said.
The man was shot about 2:45 p.m. Saturday in Homeland, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. He was treated at a hospital for life-threatening injuries but was expected to survive, the statement said.
As of Sunday evening, sheriff’s officials still were trying to confirm the man’s identity, said Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela, a department spokeswoman.
The shooting occurred in a residence in the 33000 block of Old State Highway. Sheriff’s officials declined to name the deputy involved, who was described in the news release as an 18-year veteran of the department. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy, the statement said.
