Boston 7, at Texas 2: David Ortiz hit his first home run in 20 games, Paul Byrd (11-11) pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings to win his fourth consecutive decision and the Red Sox moved to within 1 1/2 games of the American League East lead. Six of their next nine games are against first-place Tampa Bay, starting tonight at Boston.

Detroit 7, at Minnesota 5: Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordonez and Dusty Ryan each hit a home run to help the Tigers win consecutive games for the first time since Aug. 22-23. Justin Morneau had four runs batted in, including a two-run triple, for the Twins.

at Seattle 5, New York 2: Jose Lopez hit two home runs, including one against Mike Mussina (17-8) that gave the Mariners a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. It was Lopez’s first multihomer game. Ryan Feierabend (1-2) gave up five hits in seven innings for his second win in 11 career decisions.

Cleveland 3, at Kansas City 1: Cliff Lee (21-2) won his 10th consecutive decision, the longest winning streak in the majors this season. The left-hander held the Royals to one run and seven hits, six of them singles, in 7 1/3 innings. Victor Martinez drove in all of the Indians’ runs.

at Toronto 1, Tampa Bay 0: David Purcey struck out seven in eight innings to help the Blue Jays extend their winning streak to eight games.

Angels 3, at Chicago 2: Joe Saunders (15-7) earned his first victory in more than a month.
