at Boston 4, Toronto 3: Jon Lester (15-5) held the Blue Jays to four hits over eight innings, Coco Crisp drove in two runs and the Red Sox pulled to within one game of American League East-leading Tampa Bay. The Red Sox and Rays begin a three-game series tonight in St. Petersburg, Fla., where the Red Sox are 0-6 this season.

at New York 8, Tampa Bay 4: Derek Jeter had three hits for the third game in a row, Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam and Jason Giambi hit a two-run home run to lead the Yankees.

at Baltimore 7, Minnesota 3: Radhames Liz (6-5) pitched eight scoreless innings and the Orioles hit five home runs, two each by Nick Markakis and Oscar Salazar and one by Lou Montanez.

Kansas City 13, at Cleveland 3: Brian Bannister (8-15) won for the first time in nearly three months and Ryan Shealy hit two home runs and drove in five runs. Bannister had lost nine consecutive decisions.

at Oakland 7, Texas 4: Aaron Cunningham hit his first major league home run, a three-run drive to left field that ended an eighth-inning tie and lifted the Athletics.

at Chicago 4-11, Detroit 2-7: DeWayne Wise hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the eighth inning of the second game to help complete the sweep after the White Sox won the first game behind Javier Vazquez’s 7 2/3 scoreless innings. The White Sox took a 1 1/2 -game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central.

at Angels 4, Seattle 3: Chone Figgins drove in the winning run in the ninth inning and the Angels completed a four-game sweep.
